Our unique offer to you is a visit to two outstanding cultural sites in South Tyrol, namely Schenna Castle and the Mausoleum, where an incredible range of art and culture are to be found.
A centre for art and culture
Schenna CastleThe family seat of the Counts of Meran in Tyrol is still owned and occupied by the same family today. Historically entwined in the history and fortunes of South Tyrol, Schenna Castle is one of the finest of its many forts and castles.
We will guide you personally through our Castle: you will be amazed at what there is to see and to hear! |
MausoleumUnited in love: Archduke John and his family found their final resting place here. A remarkable burial place for a remarkable member of the Habsburg dynasty! The Mausoleum is both architecturally and artistically one of the finest examples of neo-Gothic sacred architecture and, thanks to its exposed location on the church hill of Schenna, is one of South Tyrol’s cultural highlights.

A warm welcome awaits...
Archduke John acquired the Castle as the Tyrolean seat of his descendants, the Counts of Meran. All our passion and efforts are dedicated to the Castle and all that has been entrusted to us for safekeeping, administration and guidance. The visible goals of our work are to provide the family estate with a noble and worthwhile future, ensuring its structural maintenance and making it for the most part accessible for the edification of our fellow humans.
Archduke John was a pioneer in economy, culture, science and technology who thought and acted in universal terms, thus serving the personal and economic well-being of his fellows. It is our heart’s desire to keep alive the memory both of him and his achievements, creating something new that too can become a tradition and fill with life what has been vouchsafed to us.
In a family tradition that goes back to her great-great-great-grandmother, namely Anna, Countess of Meran, today’s occupant Johanna – in addition to her many other tasks here – knits warm socks for cosy winter evenings on the sofa, fingerless gloves and warm hoods for winter walks, baby slippers for your children and grandchildren, as well as cuddly pillowcases. The products, individually made for you, feature brightly coloured, lovingly crafted details in high-quality alpaca and merino wool.
